Dr. Laura Skriner is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and is committed to working with individuals with anxiety disorders, OCD, body-focused repetitive behaviors, and mood disorders. Dr. Skriner works with children, adolescents, and adults to clarify their values and learn individualized skills to meet their goals and make lasting changes.
She is skilled in a number of evidence-based treatment approaches including exposure and response prevention (ER/P), behavioral activation, treatment for selective mutism, habit reversal training, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). She frequently integrates mindfulness and values-based approaches into her practice.
Dr. Skriner received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University and has trained at several of the most prestigious hospitals and treatment centers in the northeast. She completed her predoctoral internship at Brown University, where she became an expert in exposure with response prevention (ER/P) therapy for the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. She has been involved in research focused on the efficacy of cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxious youth, understanding what factors lead to positive change, and understanding the impact of the therapeutic relationship on treatment. She has been involved in a number of funded research studies focused on the treatment of youth with anxiety and depression as well as studies focused on training practitioners in cognitive-behavioral therapies. In 2012, she received a National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Mental Health to study predictors of treatment outcomes among youth receiving CBT for anxiety.
Dr. Skriner has co-authored book chapters and written scholarly articles for a number of peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology. She is active in national professional organizations, including the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) and the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (SSCCAP, APA Div 53).
