Body-focused Repetitive Behaviors and Tic Disorders
Body-focused repetitive behavior (BFRB) includes hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking, and nail-biting. These disorders are characterized by people repeatedly touching their hair and body in ways that result in physical damage. Tic and Tourette’s Disorder involved sudden, recurrent, involuntary movements, or vocalizations. Transient tics are common over the course of development but can raise a concern and can cause interference in daily functioning if persistent.
