Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) is another form of exposure therapy for PTSD. PE consists of 90-minute sessions, in which the clinician guides the client through three interventions:
- Repeated retelling of the traumatic memory, so that the client gets acclimated to the memory in a safe and supportive environment;
- Real-life exposures to situations that are objectively “safe”, but which the client has been avoiding; and
- Processing and reorganizing of the thoughts, feelings, and beliefs that stem from the client’s traumatic experience.
